There are many strengths and weaknesses in relation to children interacting with each other in the classroom. In classrooms where students have opportunities to communicate with each other they are effectively constructing their knowledge by emphasizing collaborative and cooperative learning. - The environment needs to be positive (Reading Rockets, 2011)
- There needs to be some sort of structure to the interaction (Reading Rockets, 2011) - Teacher must be supportive to the students ideas and opinions and listen (Reading Rockets, 2011) - Is the interaction productive or is it going off topic? (Reading Rockets, 2011) - Teachers must monitor and try to prevent misbehaviours (Reading Rockets, 2011) - Teacher should join in on the interaction, but let the students run it (Reading Rockets, 2011) |
